Etna Maryland 2013 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Colleagues

We are pleased to announce the return of the Etna Project, MD.  This widely acclaimed series will be offered as a special series starting April, 2013.  This special Etna Project series encompasses three extended weekends of your commitment to professional development, exploration, and discovery.  You must commit to all three weekends.

If you've taken Foundations I and II with Betty Colonomos, have an interest in exploring interpreting theory, applying the work of Lev Vygotsky, engaging with colleagues in ways that promote self-discovery and learning, consider joining this exciting endeavor. Participants commit to attending the sessions and bringing video samples of interpreting or mentoring which will be used in our work together.

Our setting (a small retreat center with great food and an organic gardener for a chef), the numbers (in years past between 10 and 20), the collective experience (hundreds of years among us!) and the commitment (60 hours and not a small price tag) make for an ideal laboratory for in-depth, on-going, reflective inquiry into the heart of interpreting and how we can improve our life-long work as interpreters, mentors, colleagues and learners.

The emergence of the Etna Project as a series was the result of several interpreters coordinating the efforts to bring advanced level training opportunities for themselves and their respected colleagues.  The resulting return of the series and its popularity with veteran interpreters indicates there is something here worth learning.

If you live a great distance from NH or MD, you may be less likely to travel for it.  So, why not consider bringing the Etna Project to you?  There are a number of us who will gladly offer support and guidance in the coordination process.  In fact, there are Etna Project alumni around the country who may be eager to help establish a series in your area!

The prerequisites for attending Etna are Foundations I & II, as taught by Betty Colonomos.  For more information about Foundations, visit the Foundations of Interpreting website.

Ask us how you can make the Etna Project series a reality for you and your colleagues locally.
